The arrest of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari caused excitement among detainees at Kuje prison in Abuja.

The inmates, most of which had personal encounters with the embattled former boss of the, Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector-General of Police, wondered how a top officer got into the Kuje Prison with them.

Kyari is facing trial alongside four other police officers, who were denied bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal capital Territory.

The National Drug Enforcement Agency accused Kyari and his accomplices of conspiracy, sabotage and trafficking of 17.55 kg worth of cocaine.

Justice Emeka Nwike, ordered the NDLEA to transfer the Abba Kyari and other defendants to prison custody, after denying them bail.

The court said the NDLEA had presented sufficient proof before it to warrant the bail refusal of Kyari and his co-defendants – Sunday Ubia, Simon Agirgba, and John Nuhu, who are all former members of the defunct IRT.
