Angry youths on Thursday vandalized and set ablaze the Palace of Aree in Iree Boripa. This event occurred in the North Local Council Developments Area of Osun State.
The palace was said to have been burnt by angry youths that were not satisfied with the arrest of the Aogun of Iree, Chief Soliu Atoyebi. He was a security agent in that local government area.
On Thursday at about 7:00 p.m. the palace was attacked and burnt. Thankfully, the traditional ruler was said to be out of the palace. This incident led to the blockage of major roads that leads to town. The angry youths made burnt fires on the roads.
Business owners in the premises were said to have immediately locked their shops. Whereas residents too locked up themselves for safety measures.
The spokesperson for Osun police, SP Yemisi Opalola, was not available for any comments, as her phone wasn’t going through.
They have been palpable fear in Iree Town following the appointments and the approval of Prince Ademola as the Aree of Iree. This appointment was done by the immediate past administration of Gboyega Oyetola.
Some ruling houses and groups in the town had rejected the selection of Ademola, alleging that he was imposed on the people by officials of Oyetola’s administration.
