According to a police source who spoke to ESPN, Brazilian international Dani Alves is being arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse after speaking to the police on Friday.

39-year-old Alves will be interrogated in theĀ  courtroom by a judge in Barcelona before deciding what to do about the case’s next steps. At this point, a police source was unable to clarify whether that will occur on Friday or over the weekend.

In response to a claim that Alves had sexually assaulted a lady in a Barcelona nightclub in December, an investigation was opened earlier this month. Alves claims he did nothing wrong.

This week, the UNAM Pumas player traveled from Mexico to Spain to face the charges. On Friday, he reported to a neighborhood police station in Barcelona, after which police took him to the Ciutat de la Justicia to await the judge’s examination.

Alves was originally reported to the police on Jan. 2 by a lady who said he had inappropriately touched her under her cloth while out with her on Dec. 30 at Barcelona’s Sutton nightclub without her permission.

The woman claimed that after she reported the assault to security, local police were notified and witness statements were taken. In a recent interview with the Spanish television network Antena 3, the former Barca, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain defender denied the allegations.
