Austin Eguavoen has stepped down as interim manager of the Super Eagles after his team was eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

After a perfect match in the group stage, the team ended Eguavoen’s hopes of a stable job as the team failed to beat the disputed Tunisia.
The Football Association of Nigeria has signed Portuguese manager José Peseiro but there is speculation that Eguavoen will have a chance to keep his position if they award Nigeria a fourth AFCON title. Yousef Msakni fulfilled this wish in the 47th minute.
At the post-match press conference, Eguavoen said that he had decided to return as the NFF’s technical manager.
“The next thing that happened was this. I am a temporary coach and technical director of the NFF. I’m going to return to my position and let the federation decide what to do next,” Eguavoen said.
Now attention is focused on the playoffs of the World Cup in Ghana, scheduled for March.
