Sonia, who is the daughter of federal lawmaker, Ike Ekweremadu on Monday, November 7th did appear in court over the accusation of trafficking a homeless man into the United Kingdom to harvest the man’s organ for herself.
According to report, Sonia was accused alongside her father Ike Ekweremadu and her mother Beatrice Ekweremadu of conspiracy to arrange the travel of another person with view of exploitation.
Report showed that Sonia Ekweremadu has not entered a plea however a trial date has been set for January 31st 2023. It was claimed that Sonia Ekweremadu and the accused did facilitate the man’s travel from Lagos to London to remove one of his kidneys.
Prosecutors however claim that the plot was to harvest the man’s organ for the benefit of Sonia.
Ike Ekweremadu’s daughter has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for some time, the court has been informed.
They were arrested after the young man, who previously lived in the street of Lagos showed up at Staines police station, claiming he was the victim of trafficking.
The man mentioned to the officers that he had arrived in United Kingdom on the 20th of February this year and had been taken to the Royal Free Hospital for test, none of which he consented to.
He added that “he had returned to the house he had been staying in, where he was treated effectively as a slave”
He mentioned that he escaped the address and was homeless for three days before going to the police.
