An Argentinean female reporter named Dominique Metzger was robbed while on duty at the World Cup, money and paperwork were stolen from her handbag.

As the first match of the World cup tournament approached, Metzger was providing commentary from  Doha’s Corniche area when she reported that her things had been stolen.

Metzger told a TN network anchor:

‘I had my small bag on me with all the things that one needs, my wallet, the keys to our hotel room, some napkins.”

The anchor asked her:

‘And you were dancing, right?’

She replied:

“Yes, I was dancing with the crowd and I’m convinced that it was at that moment when someone opened the bag zipper and took my wallet.

“I didn’t realise at that moment, you know you’re live on air, with music and crowds around you, and I was focused on you talking to me too. So I wasn’t paying attention.

“After I finish my live report, I wanted to take my wallet to buy a water bottle and then I realised I didn’t have it.”

Metzger said that she had informed the local police about the incident, and she was astonished by their response.

She added that she was asked to choose the punishment for the suspect and that officials afterwards told her that they would identify the suspect.

“Do you want us to deport him or sentence him to five years in prison?” They asked me to make a decision.

But I told them that I only wanted my wallet back and would leave the choice to their justice system, she claimed.
