According to Sani Yusuf, the Executive Secretary of Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), at least 50 people have died and more than 8,000 people have been forced to leave their homes due to flooding in the State.

He emphasized that homes were also destroyed by the flood in a statement he issued on Sunday.

Over 10,000 people were reportedly forced to leave their homes across the state, and more casualties are expected as the flooding and storms continue to wreak havoc.

He added that the State government had established 11 transitory camps for the displaced people and that some of the victims were from the area of Balangu.

Since NiMet had predicted further flooding in several areas of the north, including Jigawa, he recommended residents of the State to leave their current location and go to a safer one, especially if they were close to the riverbank.
