Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has put into law a female inheritance bill that will allow Abia women to inherit and possess properties in their father’s family.

Ikpeazu said his administration would continue to support women. He congratulated women on the bill, which is now officially known as “The Female Persons Right of Inheritance of Property Law 2022.”

In addition to thanking the state assembly for having the guts to enact the legislation, the governor vowed that in carrying out its duties to state people, his administration will stick to the side of reason and common sense.

Ikpeazu, who also referred to the legislation as historic, stated that women will no longer be treated like second-class citizens, even inside their own families.
