Gunmen stormed Nnewi South Local Government Headquarters in Ukpor, Anambra State, and sets fire to about five buildings.

The unidentified gunmen carried out the attack in the early hours of Thursday, March 31st.

DSP State Police Public Relations Officer Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident and said the council headquarters had been condoned off by police officials and state firefighters were also stationed there to regulate the situation.

Meanwhile, Anambra Governor Professor Charles Soludo visited the scene to access to the scene after the attack by unidentified gunmen.

The governor inspected the buildings burned by the hooligans, including the Ministry of Work Department, Education Building, Traditional Council Office, Office of the Public Complaints Commission, and Office of the Department of Real Estate.

In his speech, the governor described the incident as a very sad moment and stressed that the security authorities would investigate the situation.

Soludo regrets that the common people will be at the receiving end, as money that should have been used to provide basic infrastructure is now being used to rebuild it.

Governor Soludo reiterated his determination to restore law and order in Anambra on behalf of the people.
