In Anambra State, Major Churchill Orji, an army officer, was killed by unknown gunmen.

The soldier was reportedly killed on Saturday, August 20, while participating in an operation in the contentious Azia axis, in the state’s Ihiala Local Government Area.

Leonard Edu, the deceased’s former classmate, confirmed the news to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday.

“In Agulu Boys Secondary School, he was my senior. So, our work is excellent. It is true that he was shot by gunmen in Azia in the LGA of Ihiala “said Edu.

On Sunday, August 21, Ugochukwu Afoekelu posted in a tribute: “Yesterday at Azia/Ukpor, our brother Major Churchill Orji paid the price for protecting our beloved State from bandits and unidentified shooters. Your efforts won’t ever be for nothing. Agulu mourn.”

Rest in peace, my brother from Nneogidi village, Agulu, Major Churchill Orji was killed yesterday at Azia/Ukpor protecting the South-East from marauders, another friend wrote.

When reached by phone, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, a spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, stated that he had not yet received a report regarding the incident.
