Ondo State University students, backed by the National Student Union (NAUS), blocked the busy Ibadan-Akure-Abuja highway on Wednesday to protest the ongoing strike by the Association of University Teachers and Staff (ASUU).
The blockade blocked many heavy trucks and passenger buses traveling to and from Abuja, Lagos or Benin, resulting in traffic jams on the highway.
Drivers traveling on the highway to nearby towns have opted for an untarred alternative route.
Former Student Union President of Federal University of Technology, Akure , Esedere Abraham, said the protest would continue until ASUU end the strike.
Esedere stated that students should not be made to suffer for any problem between ASUU and the Federal Government.
Vice Chairman of NAUS, Ondo State chapter, Shittu Folarin, said the students want to ensure this would be the last action by ASUU.
