The governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, ordered all government employees and elected officials to report to work every Monday. Severe penalties will be applied if this criteria is not met.
Mr. Theodora Igwegbe, the Head of Service in Akwa, claimed on Friday that Soludo had ordered employees to go to work on Mondays just like they did on other working days.
Government services, markets, banks and schools are always closed on Mondays following an order issued on Monday by IPOB.
Workers, traders and others have been observing the day as holidays in all the southeast.
A statement entitled “Presence in the line of duty” was also addressed to the Deputy Governor, Chairman of the DPR, Chief of Staff, all members, all special advisers, secretaries, heads of all departments and others. Instructing them to pass the information to officials working under and monitor compliance.
The statement reads, in part: “Therefore, any absence without permission on a Monday or other official working day will be considered a serious offense and will be subject to appropriate sanctions.”
