One of the two Catholic priests who were kidnapped on Friday in Kaduna State has been found dead.
While on a mission, the two were kidnapped at the rectory of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Yadin Garu in Kaduna’s Lere Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo, Cleopas escaped from the kidnappers’ den while Chietnum was killed.
The priest decaying body was claimed to be discovered on Tuesday.
According to reports, the victim was allegedly slain the same day he was kidnapped.
Rev. Chietnum served as both the coordinating CAN chairman for Southern Kaduna and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jema’a Local Government Area, until his death.
We want to appeal to everyone to refrain from using the law against anyone as we ask for prayers for the eternal rest of our dear brother and Priest and God’s comfort on his immediate family. The Diocese proclaimed a two-day period of mourning in honor of his soul’s “quiet repose,” the church stated in a statement.
According to the statement, his funeral is planned to take place at the Cathedral of St. Peter Kafanchan on Thursday at 10am.
