Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma responded to the shocking murder of 14 youths who were returning home after a traditional marriage in Awo-Omamma by members of the state’s Ebubeagu South-East security unit.
Uzodinma, who corroborated the massacre of the youths, claimed that Department of State Services (DSS) agents of the Nigerian secret police carried out the executions while engulfing Ebubeagu Security.
According to reports, the Otulu community expressed outrage over the brutal slaughter of their youths, who were attacked without ever doing anything wrong.
On Monday, it was revealed that a social media viral video showed locals moving the dead lads’ bodies to the market square in wheelbarrows.
Locals claimed that Imo State’s local security agency, Ebubeagu, wrongly branded the murdered youngsters as bandits and killed them while they were coming home on Sunday night after attending a local traditional marriage ceremony.
Nevertheless, Governor Uzodinma stated, in contrast to rumors circulating, that the operation was carried out by DSS personnel who stormed a bandits’ hideout in the neighborhood in response to what he called, intelligence reports, while briefing journalists at the Government House, Owerri, after the weekly Security Council meeting.
In fighting state instability, he declared that “the government will not submit to any campaign of falsehood or blackmail.”
He insisted that all of the young people who were killed were criminals, and he swore to continue killing thugs.
