The 21-year-old, who has played for England once, made a season-long loan move to the Spanish first division on Friday.

United said last month that Greenwood would go by mutual consent following a six-month internal club inquiry.

It happened after the footballer had his criminal charges for attempted rape and assault dropped in February.

In a post on social media website X, formerly known as Twitter, Greenwood spoke of his Getafe move: “I’m so happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Since his arrest in January 2022 as a result of charges involving information that was posted online, Greenwood has not participated in any United matches or training sessions.

The player enters the Coliseum Alfonso Perez stadium for Getafe in Madrid amid applause in a video released by the club’s English X account with the caption “We love you Mason Greenwood.” He is also seen working out with teammates.

Additional posts feature a supporter holding a banner requesting the owner of the fan wearing the club shirt with his name on it.

The club will formally introduce Greenwood on Tuesday at 18:00 BST.

In October 2022, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily damage.

The Crown Prosecution Service claimed that after the charges were dropped in February 2023, there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” since key witnesses had left the case and new information had emerged.

The player, who had previously been considered one of the five most valuable players in Europe, was then the subject of a United internal probe.

Greenwood said he had “made mistakes” and accepted his “share of responsibility” in a statement from last month, but he also maintained: “I did not do the things I was accused of.”

“Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged,” United stated in a statement in August.

Jose Bordalas, the manager of Getafe, expressed his optimism that the team would assist Greenwood in “recovering his best level” in relation to the transfer on Saturday following a 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in which Greenwood was not featured.
