A Nigerian law student in the UK, Damilola Olakanmi, has died after eating cannabis sweet she bought online.
The 23-year-old Hertfordshire University student reportedly bought the sweets via a messaging app and they were delivered to her home in Ilford, east London, where she lived with her mother.
Olakanmi became ill after consuming the sweets on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
According to Mirror UK, She consumed the candy with a 21-year-old friend, an American student visiting the UK. While her girlfriend survived, she died.
The deceased was known as the only child of her mother. Richard Taylor, a friend of her mother, told the Standard, Wumi has lost her only child-she has nothing now. They had to hold her up because she broke down every time a friend came to the house to give her support.”
A 37-year-old man, Leon Brown was arrested on Friday in connection with the incident, according to police.
The suspect was arrested and charged with intent to supply class B synthetic cannabinoids, engage in the supply of synthetic cannabinoids, and supply psychoactive substances.
