Mr. Martin Agbili, who is the Director/Fire Chief of Anambra Services, spoke on the Onitsha Fire Explosion. He said that about 80 shops were affected in the chemical market fire explosion in Onitsha Head Bridge.

This information is contained in a statement that is signed by Agbili on Wednesday in Onitsha.

Martin mentioned that the Onitsha Fire Explosion took place at the Science and Lab Line of Ogbo Ogwu Market. It didn’t however affect the entire Ogbo Ogwu Market, Onitsha.

“The Onitsha Fire Explosion is a terrible situation but the fire is under control. The vibration as result of the explosion caused the collapse of some market building.

He added that “Quite a number of safety measures have been implemented to protect the entire market. Yes, there are casualties but we can’t really ascertain the actual number of death and people injured.”

Goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire.

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra command says that Police was yet to determine the level of casualty.

Tochukwu mentioned this on Tuesday in Onitsha while responding to Onitsha Fire Explosion that rocked the chemical market. According to him, I don’t have all the required information on the level of casualty and level of damage.

“However, what I’m able to confirm is that there was a fire explosion at the chemical market. And we have deployed our operative which is led by DCP Operations, John Ogbodga to the scene of the events.

“The affected area has been cordoned off. The fire service was also on ground and we have the situation under control,” he said.
