One Inspector Adejoh Siaka of Nigeria Police force has been demoted to a Sergeant.
Siaka was seen on a video that went viral on the internet, flogging and assaulting a young man. The incident happened in River State on the 9th of April.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi Force Public Relations Office shared the update through a post on Instagram.
He said “As IGP tasks Officers on professionalism, Respect for Fundamental Rights
“Subsequent to complaints and findings on video evidence widely circulated on Sunday 9th April, 2023, on social media of assault, discreditable conduct, and incivility to members of the public, at Emouha, River State, and follow-up orderly room trail of the affected policemen by the Force Provost Marshal, one Adejoh Siaka has been reduced in rank from Inspector to Sergeant.
“Similarly, one Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari who was also present at the scene but took no steps to discourage such inappropriate and shameful act was severely reprimanded.”
Meanwhile, one Inspector Friday Obaka who was part of the team was discovered to be absent from the scene during the ugly incident. The police officers are to be posted out of River State to other Commands where they will continue their police duties.
The Inspector General of Police has called on men and women of the Nigeria Police to be diligent and professional as they carry out their duties and to uphold the fundamental rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 constitution.
