The Police Service Commission has tasked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba to deepen the investigation into the relationship between ousted head of Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari and an Internet scammer Abbas Ramon (Hushpuppi).
Kyari was suspended on July 2021 after being accused of being involved in a $1.1 million internet scam allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi and four others. Abdul Rahman Zuma (Abdul); Vincent Chibuso (Kelly); Son of Pasolla (Moraio); and Bolatito Agbabiaca (bolamide).
The Federal Bureau of Investigation alleges that on January 20, 2020, Hushpupi transferred $20,600 to two bank accounts that is linked to Kyari. But Kyari denied wrongdoing.
Malami told the committee that Kyari’s police investigation was not thorough and that more evidence was needed to confirm the relationship of former IRT commander to Hushpuppi.
Following the advice of Federal Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, the PSC gave IG two weeks to submit a report to the PSC Standing Disciplinary Committee for further review
It was reported that the facts contained in the AGF police investigation report are not strong enough to convict DCP.
Meanwhile, spokesman, US Attorney Office for Central District of California, Thom Mrozek, has said Hushpuppi would be sentenced on February 14, 2022.
