CSP Daniel Itse Amah, who rejected a $200,000 bribe, has been given a special promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC also gave the policeman the sum of N1 million as a reward for continuing to uphold the police’s integrity.
According to reports, President Muhammadu Buhari recently honoured the new ACP with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award at the 4th National Summit on Reducing Corruption in the Public Sector, which was organized by the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, in coordination with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF, and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
Amah exemplifies the honesty and good character of a deserving Police officer, according to Police Service Commission Chairman and former Supreme Court Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi.
She added that the reward and unique promotion would raise the morale of all police personnel, encouraging them to always act honorably.
The PSC chairman said:
“On April 24, 2022, a matter was reported to him that a suspect, one Mr. Ali Zaki, persuaded Bureau De Change Operators that he had $750,000 which he could sell to them at a rate of N430 to give him the equivalent of N322,500,000.
“The transaction happened after a bank staff confirmed to the victim that there was money at the bank. But as the victims were moving the cash, the suspect made plans with armed robbers to follow them and rob them.
“When the incident was reported to the Police Division in Kano State where SP Daniel Amah work as the DPO, they started investigations. In the process of the investigation, they track down the principal suspect, Mr Zaki who offered $200,000 to the SP to kill the case, through a bank staff.
“After the offer was rejected, the bank staff was immediately arrested which led to the arrest of the suspect. The $200,000 was recovered and put on as an exhibit.”
