Cody Gakpo was the star of the moment as helped Netherland book their place in the World Cup last 16. The group winners came out on-top with a straightforward 2-0 victory over hosts Qatar on Tuesday.

The Dutch team needed just a point to progress to the next round. This was secured in the first half as Cody scored for a third straight group game.

Frankie De Jong added to Qatar’s problem as he was also on the score-sheet in the 49th minute. Netherland cruised through the flat atmosphere at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Qatar where already eliminated before the kick off. They suffered the ignominy of becoming the first home team in the history of World Cup to finish the group stage without a single point.

The Netherland side ended with seven points as the top of Group A. While Senegal joined them in the knockout phase as runners –up. This is after they’ve beat Ecuador 2-1.
