The fire broke out Friday morning after a tanker truck exploded in the street, destroying buildings and shops in a nearby market.
A statement from Soludo media aide Joe Anatune on Saturday said the new governor was deeply saddened by the level of material loss suffered by the victims.
Lamenting the constant explosions of tankers at the Onitsha axis and other cities in the country, he assured that permanent solutions would be found to prevent future occurrences to protect precious lives and future material losses, saying this current trends can’t continue. Soludo congratulated President Mohammadu Bukhari and Governor Willie Obiano for their prompt response and condolences to the victims.
Therefore, he asked the competent state agencies to provide assistance in this kind of case, to provide the necessary assistance and support to alleviate the loss, pain and suffering suffered by the victims of that unfortunate incident.
He praised the courage of young people, firefighters and other security personnel who came to the scene immediately to stop the spread of fire.
