A teenager and another person have been arrested by Niger State police in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Yasir Salisu, a 13-year-old boy.

The victim went missing on July 29, according to a statement released in Minna by the state police command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, who confirmed the event to news reporters.

Wasiu claims that Usman Sabiu, 22, and Nafiu Umar, 18, confessed to abducting the victim in order to demand a ransom from his father.

“Usman Sabiu admitted to conspiring with Nafiu Umar to kidnap the victim and take her to Nafiu’s home with the intention of collecting N100,000 from the boy’s father.

Unfortunately, he claimed that because the victim could not provide the father’s contact information to demand a ransom and both suspects were recognized by the victim, who is a neighbor, the victim was killed by the suspects after being strangled, according to the statement.

The suspects buried the body in a shallow grave near a river, the PPRO stated.
