On Monday, two policemen lost their lives when a truck driver crushed them. This incident took place in the Adebayo Area of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Report gathered that these policemen were conveying themselves to work on a motorcycle when the truck driver ran into them. It rammed into them at a spot where traffic was been diverted for reconstruction purposes. All of these happened on the dualised Ado-Iworoko Road.

An eyewitness mentioned that the truck driver was actually responsible for the accident that took the lives of the policemen.

The eyewitness said that, “The Policemen were coming towards the heart of the town while the truck driver was actually going towards the direction of Iworoko. Then, the truck driver suddenly crossed to their lane due to the road diversion and crushed them.”

The State Police Relations Officer on the Truck Driver incident:

Sunday Abutu, the State Police Relations Officer described the incident as unfortunate and added that the driver had been arrested.

He said, “What I can confirm to you is that this pathetic event happened in the morning when the two policemen were coming to work. They were coming from Iworoko Ekiti to their duty post in Ado Ekiti, and were crushed by a truck.

“The policemen were on their lane, it was the driver that was actually negotiating a diversion. This diversion was placed on the road by the construction company rehabilitating the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki Road by turning to the left side and overran them.

“We learned that both of them are dead. The driver has however been arrested while the corpses have been deposited in the morgue at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.”

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ekiti State Command, Olusola Joseph, has corroborated with the police spokesperson.

He has cautioned drivers plying all roads in the state to control their speed in order to curb senseless carnage.

Joseph said, “Our drivers must be safety cautious. Some of these untimely deaths could have been prevented if we were cautious and actually careful on the roads. I appeal to our people to always keep to the highway safety precautions for the safety of lives.
