There was an uneasy calm along the premises of Ugwugo Nike—Nsukka Express Road, Enugu East Local Government Areaof Enugu State, Sunday, this was a result of the alleged abduction of an unspecified number of road users, which included student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, who were returning to the University after the eight months Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, strike.
Some commuters, who were lucky to escape, did say that the kidnappers attacked at least 6 commercial buses, and they riddled them with bullet and diverted the occupant to the nearby bushes.
News gathered says that the kidnappers are already contacting the families of victims, demanding a ransom of 30 million.
Although the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe hasn’t responded to the enquiries on the incident. Some commuter that pleaded for anonymity said; “It is very true, some people were kidnapped”
News gathered says that the road that was invaded by these kidnappers has become a flashpoint for kidnapping and sort of criminal activities.
In September 2022, the kidnappers did block the said road around Ekwegbe axis and abducted an unspecified number of road users with police claiming that two of the victims were later rescued.
