Michael Adebayo Olainka, better known as Ruger, is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer-songwriter. In a recent interview, Ruger revealed the main reason he is one-eyed.
Responding to fellow colleague, Rema who is returning to school after a hiatus in his music career, the singer said he also has plans to continue his academic activities.
“Rema recently went back to school, I know. However, my plans towards furthering your education are personal. I’d do it when I want to do it and I guess you will know when it happens,” he stated.
When asked if there was pressure on his parents about his education,the Dior Crooner replied;
“Honestly, I won’t call it ‘pressure’. My parents are understanding of the situation and encouraged me. In the period of seeking admission into the university, I got working, just to gain knowledge from other fields. I worked at the popular Computer Village in Lagos. I started as an apprentice at a store that fixed phones before becoming an engineer after some months. I gained all that knowledge, learned some new things, so there wasn’t any pressure whatsoever and by the third year, I met D’Prince.”
Ruger rose to prominence in 2021 after signing a record deal with D’Prince titled ‘Jonzing World Records’ with publishing and distribution deals with Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment, a division of the UK.
He is currently recognized as the leader of the Nigeria new school talent and his single “Dior” is currently one of the most popular songs in Nigeria.
